Theatre Erindale announces their new season:

Hero of My Own Life
Directed by Mimi Mekler
Adapted by Thomas Hischak
October 25 - November 3, 2007

"The catchy season title comes from the famous opening line of the first attraction, Charles Dickens' David Copperfield: "Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show." Dickens' comic 1850 masterpiece features a lively new ensemble, with vivid events and colorful characters that may remind one of Nicholas Nickleby, as Peggotty, Mr. Micawber, Uriah Heep, Betsy Trotwood and the rest put orphaned Davy through travels, trials, and tribulations on the road to becoming the "hero of his own life".

Women of the Klondike
Directed by Marc Richard
Musical Direction by Christopher Dawes
Adapted from the book by Frances Backhouse
November 15 - 17 & 20 - 24, 2007

"Canadian history will spring to life with a collective adaptation of Frances Backhouse's book Women of the Klondike. The female teachers, doctors, nurses, journalists, entrepreneurs, and even miners who slogged their way over the Chilcoot Pass – not to mention legendary dance hall girls like Klondike Kate and Diamond Tooth Gertie – may have started by panning for gold, but they ended by helping to define the 'New Woman'."

That Summer
by David French
Directed by Patrick Young
January 17 - 26, 2008

"The season's antidote to winter will be a bittersweet memory tale of youthful romance reminiscent of Dirty Dancing and My American Cousin. Set in cottage country in the 1950s, That Summer is a recent hit from David French. Two teenaged sisters come of age, as scenes that are frequently hilarious lead to a touching and unexpected ending."

Pillars of Society
by Henrik Ibsen
Directed by Heinar Piller
February 7 - 16, 2008

"In a story ripped from tomorrow's headlines, Karsten Bernick's huge success as a pillar of his community is founded on a lie. But now the very people who know the truth return from America and threaten to bring his world crashing down around his ears. And what he plans to do about it could be nothing short of murder ... This seldom-seen landmark from the 1870s was a recent hit for The National Theatre of Great Britain."

The Trojan Women and Lysistrata
by Euripides and Aristophanes
Directed by Catherine McNally
March 6 - 15, 2008

"The mainstage season will finish with a remarkable double bill – a tragedy and comedy that have been stirring us for 2500 years. This pairing would be unthinkable if it were not for the brilliant new streamlined versions created by American playwright and actress Ellen McLaughlin – originally created for the Balkan Theatre and Lysistrata Projects.  Achingly passionate and outrageously funny, together they remind us why women and war have been mortal foes ever since the discovery of peace."

Theatre Erindale mainstage productions feature the performances of senior Acting students with the design and direction of seasoned professionals. They take place in the intimate state-of-the-art Erindale Studio Theatre on the campus of the University of Toronto at Mississauga. Season Memberships featuring one show free will go on sale in August for just $56.00 (only $36.00 for students and seniors!).
