The Toronto Symphony Orchestra and The Second City Toronto have joined forces for the world première of THE SECOND CITY GUIDE TO THE ORCHESTRA. Celebrating their shared love of symphonic music and comedy, the two eminent organizations conspired very closely together throughout all stages of the project to create the first programme of its kind in Canada.

Hosted by world-renowned Canadian comedian Colin Mochrie, with TSO Music Director Peter Oundjian on the podium, THE SECOND CITY GUIDE TO THE SYMPHONY is a two-act programme of original and classical music mixed with the legendary comedy club's unique blend of sketch comedy, satire, song, improv and video.

The Second City ensemble will present a loving and hilarious look at the idiosyncrasies of a world-class symphony orchestra, from the perspective of a couple on a blind date at the TSO, to Gustav Mahler's secret second career; from an appreciative send-up of the audience, to the remarkable sexual prowess of a woodwind virtuoso. There will be no Valkyries, but there will be dragons!

The Orchestra will perform original compositions from Second City Musical Director Matthew Reid; well-known excerpts from such composers as, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Strauss; and audience favourites, Mozart and Glinka.

The Second City collaborators include co-writers Carly Heffernan, Scott Montgomery and Klaus Schuller with original music by Matthew Reid, directed by Chris Earl and performed by Marty Adams, Matt Baram, Ashley Botting, Carly Heffernan, Allison Price and Kevin Vidal.
