The Second City is proud to present the 78th Mainstage Revue, Come What Mayhem!, opening Tuesday, August 30, 2016 for an extended engagement.
In a year where
Donald Trump is assaulting reason, where armchair activism isn't enough, and internet trolls can't handle a female Ghostbuster - let alone a female president - Come What Mayhem! is a satirical sketch comedy revue that drags the 2016 news cycle onto the stage, shines bright theatre lights on it and laughs in its face. Come What Mayhem! bashes misogyny, trashes racial profiling and joshes social justice warriors in classic Second City style.
Come What Mayhem! is created and performed by The Second City Toronto Mainstage cast, marking the fourth revue for Kyle Dooley and third for Becky Johnson. Joining the cast are first-time Mainstage performers Roger Bainbridge, Brandon Hackett, Lindsay Mullan and Ann Pornel, previously members of the Second City Touring Company.
Come What Mayhem! is directed by The Second City alumna Carly Heffernan, and assistant to the director Nigel Downer. Meg Maguire and Lee Cohen return as stage manager and music director respectively. Set design by Camellia Koo, with scenic art and graffiti design by Chris
Tina Hantos and Jeff Blackburn.
Laura Gardner returns as stylist.
"The world outside is stormy with violent attacks, racial intolerance, and Pokémon GO. Come What Mayhem! doesn't run away from that storm but rather chases it down and gets right in the eye," says director Carly Heffernan. "Come What Mayhem! challenges the world to "Come at me Bro.""
