Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir performs Handel's beloved baroque masterpiece, Messiah, on December 18, 19, 20, and 21 at 7:30 pm in the stunning setting of Koerner Hall, TELUS Centre. A cherished Toronto holiday tradition since 1981, Tafelmusik's Messiah is conducted by Ivars Taurins.
Tafelmusik's resoundingly popular Sing-Along Messiah takes place on Saturday, December 22 at 2 pm in a new venue, Roy Thomson Hall. This season's stellar cast of soloists for both events includes Sherezade Panthaki, soprano; Krisztina Szabó, mezzo-soprano; Charles Daniels, tenor; and making his Tafelmusik debut, Drew Santini, baritone. Full program details are available at tafelmusik.org.
Audience members are invited to share their holiday goodwill and help a family in need. Tafelmusik, in partnership with CBC Toronto and Daily Bread Food Bank, will be collecting non-perishable food items at all Messiah performances. New this year: choral keeners can brush up on their Messiah choruses ahead of the big day with Tafelmusik's Sing-Along Messiah Workshop on Saturday, December 8 from 2:00 to 4:30 pm at Eglinton St. George's United Church.
Participants will be seated in sections according to voice type - soprano, alto, tenor, and bass - each led by a member of the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir, and Ivars Taurins will work on a selection of choruses from Messiah. Tickets for the workshop are $10 and are available at tafelmusik.org
