Set in present day Brooklyn, a war correspondent is returning home from Iraq with his long-term girlfriend, an injured photojournalist. With her leg in a cast, arm in a sling, and a face full of shrapnel, Sarah, and James, try to piece together what 'normal' means for them now. The consequences of their work; the exposure to life in a war zone, have begun to affect their relationship.
TIME STANDS STILL was one of the highest acclaimed productions in the 2014 Toronto Fringe Festival where it was called a play "full of rich ideas about privilege, happiness and the ethics of exploiting suffering for art," by Glenn Sumi of Now Magazine, who also identified the show for Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Ensemble.
The original cast returns for the remount, including Kirstin Rae Hinton (TV series Blue Murder, Murdoch Mysteries, InSecurity, and The Dinner and Looney Bin in the 2012 and 2004 Toronto Fringe Festivals) as Sarah Goodwin; Jason Jazrawy (The Melville Boys and The Dishwashers - Red Barn Theatre, and The Dinner in the 2012 Toronto Fringe) as James Dodd; Sam Rosenthal (TV series Murdoch Mysteries, The Listener, and On the Other Side of the World-Next Stage Festival, Hilda's Yard-Theatre New Brunswick) as Richard Ehrlich; and Carleigh Beverly (TV Series The Listener, Flashpoint, Rookie Blue, and the film Hunting Season) as Mandy Bloom.
TIME STANDS STILL is directed by Dora-award winner Jordan Merkur, founder and artistic director of Eclectic Theatre since 1985, and former artistic director of Red Barn Theatre for eight years. His directorial credits include The Glass Menagerie, Fortune and Men's Eyes, Creeps, Bent, 'Night Mother and Assassins, winner of five Dora awards including Best musical.
Tony Award-nominated for Best Play, TIME STANDS STILL masterfully dramatizes the inherent conflict between what one thinks, and how one should-or ultimately can-live.
