'Sundays At The Young' To Present THE BIRDS AND THE BEES 8/16

Albert Schultz, General Director of the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, today announced the line-up for the fourth Sunday in Sundays at the Young, a series of day-long festivals that enlivens the Young Centre throughout July and August.

For four Sundays in July and August, the Resident Artists of the Young Centre for the Performing Arts take over the entire venue to celebrate the creative spirit of Toronto in all of its cultural, ethnic and disciplinary diversity.

Each program features concerts and free ancillary events and installations throughout the day.

The final Sunday at the Young is:

* The Birds and the Bees - Sunday, August 16 - 2:00 p.m.

Young Centre Resident Artist David Buchbinder leads a family-oriented concert celebrating our fragile planet and its creatures in song, word and dance.

Sensational musicians joins celebrated dancers, poets and storytellers for an afternoon of environmental exploration. A poetry performance from celebrated author Dennis Lee (Alligator Pie, Civil Elegies) accompanies stories and poems from Kenneth Welsh and First Nation storyteller Jim Adams, and contemporary dance by Julia Aplin.

Songs and music will be performed by Shoshana Sperling and Maury Lafoy of the kid-oriented rock and roll band The Monkey Bunch, saxophonist Richard Underhill (Shuffle Demons, Blue Rodeo, etc.), jazz pianist Dave Restivo, drummer Max Roach, and Young Centre Resident Artist Suba Sankaran.

The Sistahs Concert - Sunday, August 9 - SOLD OUT! - 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
* Young Centre Resident Artist Andrew Craig brings together seven of Canada's most powerful, most prominent, and most loved black female vocalists for two extraordinary concerts. The Sistahs Concert features Molly Johnson, Jackie Richardson, KellyLee Evans, Toya Alexis, Alana Bridgewater, Shakura S'Aida, and Ada Lee.

Celebrating the indomitable creative spirit of our forbears.

O Canada - Sunday, July 19
Two special concerts celebrating Canadian songwriting legend Gordon Lightfoot and master percussionist Trichy Sankaran.

Sundays at the Young are led and created by General Director Albert Schultz and the Young Centre's Resident Artists: Waleed Abdulhamid, David Buchbinder, Roberto Campanella, Andrew Craig, Weyni Mengesha, John Millard, Claudia Moore, Andrea Nann, Patricia O'Callaghan, Soheil Parsa, Noah Richler, and Suba Sankaran.

Sundays at the Young run until August 16 at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, located at 55 Mill Street, Building 49, in the Distillery Historic District. Tickets for the concerts are $20 for adults, and $5 for students and children. All ancillary events are FREE.
