"Art is a powerful force that can challenge perceptions, inspire change, and unite us across cultural boundaries. As we launch Soundstreams' new season, 'In Search of Regeneration,' we celebrate music's ability to transcend language and ideology. We invite audiences to explore diverse narratives, from the poignant letters of children in Letters to God to the spiritual resonance in Invocations. Music fosters understanding and empathy in these divisive times, reminding us that we all share common dreams, fears, and hopes." — Lawrence Cherney, Founding Artistic Director, Soundstreams.

For its 2024/25 Season, Soundstreams invites you to experience a captivating array of performances that explore the profound connections between music, culture, and the human experience. Kicking off with Letters to God on October 24, 2024, this performance weaves together the musical threads of Canadian and Japanese cultures, featuring the legendary Fujii Percussion, with 73 artists onstage, including 2 choirs and 5 instrumentalists. A broad spectrum of repertoire reflects a rich tapestry of themes, including the innocence and wisdom of childhood. Next, on December 5, Invocations offers a deeply resonant evening, where the Gryphon Trio and esteemed guests like violin virtuoso Lara St. John present a collection of pieces that echo our innermost spiritual calls for inspiration and guidance, including a world premiere by James Rolfe with vocalist Aviva Chernick.

On February 27, 2025, the Vancouver Chamber Choir, under the baton of Kari Turunen, showcases their profound artistry with music by Tarik O'Regan alongside premieres from emerging composers. On March 22, with you and without you delves into the bittersweet nature of love songs, juxtaposing classical and contemporary works that convey the essence of longing and loss, featuring the brilliant soprano Danika Lorèn. Finally, from April 24 to 27, Garden of Vanished Pleasures makes its world premiere, a poignant opera inspired by the life of queer rights activist Derek Jarman, beautifully combining the evocative compositions of Cecilia Livingston and Donna McKevitt about the fight to secure fundamental human rights for the LGBTQ+ community.

In addition to these powerful performances, Soundstreams is excited to present Soundstreams TD Encounters, a series of free events hosted in venues across the city. Designed to offer something different each time, these events blend performance with artist discussions and Q&A sessions, giving audiences the unique opportunity to engage with artists and their work in an intimate and relaxed setting.

This season's performance promises to be a transformative journey, inviting audiences to reflect on the complexities of connection, loss, and the quest for understanding in our shared humanity.
