Albert Schultz, Founding Artistic Director of Soulpepper Theatre Company, today announced that the company's production of The Guardsman will run August 31 to October 24, 2009, at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts.

In this 1910 comic masterpiece, Hungarian playwright Ferenc Molnár (Olympia, The Play's the Thing), explores love, fidelity, disguise and illusion. A celebrated actor, unsure of his wife's devotion, disguises himself to test her veracity, only to be caught in his own game.

Hungarian director and Soulpepper regular László Marton (Artistic Director of the Vígszínház in Budapest - the theatre for which Molnár wrote his plays) directs Soulpepper's Artistic Director Albert Schultz in the role of the Actor and Kristen Thomson as his Actress wife. The Guardsman also features Founding Member Diego Matamoros as Critic, Diana Donnelly as Liesl, Dawn Greenhalgh as Mama, Jennifer Phipps as Usherette, and Michael Simpson as Creditor.

Previewing August 31 to September 7, 2009, The Guardsman opens September 8 and runs until October 24 at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, located at 55 Mill Street, Building 49, in the Distillery Historic District. Tickets range from $28 - $68 and are available by calling the Young Centre box office at 416.866.8666 or by visiting www.soulpepper.ca. $20 tickets are available for 21-30 year-olds at www.stageplay.ca.
