It's 2017 and the world is going to hell in a pussy hat. And the super hero that came here to save us from ourselves is giving up.
"Superhuman strength with human weakness, that's a screw over," says Cherie (Superlady). Raised in a small Ontario town with no idea of her destiny, our Gen X Superlady has been fighting evil and her own neurotic family for years - and now she's done. She longs for her true home but must lighten her heart before she can go back - unless a major super villain or working on intimacy kills her first.
SOULO Theatre and Katie Ford present a POP-UP SHOW! The Return of Superlady runs at the RED Sandcastle Theatrefor 6 performances only from Wednesday March 29-Sunday April 2. SOULO Theatre Artistic Director Tracey Erin Smithstars as Superlady Cherie in this new dark comedy (with hints of light) by Katie Ford (Ms. Congeniality, Desperate Housewives), along with Christopher Sawchyn, Savoy Howe and Caitlin Driscoll. Katie Ford (Playwright):
Stolen from a facebook post by Jane Ford, her twin sister: "Katie Ford grew up reading Edward Albee at 13 and Sam Shepard when she was 18. She wrote a play called By Your Side that starred Nadia Ross and Keanu Reeves when she/we/they were 20. Then when she was 22, her next play, called Out in America was done at the Wallenboyd Theater in LA, with Hilary Shepard and Lisa Zane (and the rest, like Gilligan's Island). It was frickin' brilliant. The LA Times named it one of the "10 Best Plays of the Year." Then everyone said playwriting was a waste of time...wouldn't pay the bills. But guess what? She did it anyway - the New York production of Out in America starred Daryl Hannah and she wrote another one called Inside Edge Citywhich happened in L.A. with Jennifer Grey. She is a brilliant playwright, part Sam Shepard, part Edward Albee, some Christopher Durang...poignant, funny, smart, human. And her most recent play, The Return of Superlady, is going to have a limited edition exclusive-like POP UP run!"
