Sore For Punching You Presents EXHALE ImageAllison Cummings, the creative force behind Sore for Punching You, presents Exhale, a complex and personal response to witnessing a last breath and shortly thereafter a first breath, and the juxtaposition between these events, October 17 - 20, 2018 at DanceMakers Centre for Creation. Choreographed by Cummings, Exhale explores rhythms of breathing together and apart within a trajectory from first to last.

Performed by five of the most recognized and celebrated dance artists in Canada, the intergenerational cast of, Bill Coleman, Julia Sasso, Andrya Duff, Jenn Goodwin and Brodie Stevenson, follow a series of choreographic tasks that explore what it means to be a part of an ecosystem reliant on the sharing of air and the inevitable reality that one day each species began and each species will stop. Consistent Sore For Punching You collaborator and sound designer, Lyon Smith, will be performing live following the same path as the dancers. Lighting design is by Simon Rossiter and set design is by Cheryl Lalonde.

"Exhale is a response to witnessing the final breaths taken by my Mother." says Cummings. "My interest lies in the complexity of this basic - and vital - universal gesture of survival and how rhythm, sound and movement affect the breathing individual and those surrounding her/him."

Exhale has been in creation and development through a series of workshop periods since 2014. It is Cummings' first full length work since the success of Final Savage Land, which toured through 2013 and 2014. Exhale will take audiences on an epic journey where the performers use syncopated breathing, unquestioned survival at all costs, the practise of just being, pushing against an increasing current, and being dispersed and settling into surfacing to a path that leads them each culminating in an individual final exhale.
