This Sunday afternoon November 25th at 2pm, Silence is proud to present a trio of renowned Toronto jazz Improvisors: pianist and composer Tania Gill who will be joined by percussionist Germaine Liu and bassist, Victor Bateman. They will first perform an improvised set of music in concert. Afterward, local improvisors in the audience are welcome to join in an improvisation session to complete the afternoon. Bring your own instrument if you'd like to participate.

Tania Gill is a pianist and composer from Toronto, whose work is centred in jazz and improvised music, and also encompasses multiple genres. She leads the Tania Gill Quartet with Lina Allemano (trumpet), Nico Dann (drums) and Rob Clutton (bass). Her last record, Bolger Station, was describef as, "a beautiful talker, with all sorts of mind-tickling verbal idiosyncrasies ... You find yourself wanting to hang on every word." Tania has performed and recorded with a long list of notable musicians including The Brodie West Quintet, Steve Reich, Anthony Braxton, Deep Dark United, The Woodshed Orchestra, Rebecca Hennessy's FOG Brass Band, The Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band, Fides Krucker and Kyp Harness. Germaine Liu is a Toronto-based percussionist, performer and composer. Her compositional interests involve collaborations with people or the objects she plays and joyful explorations of everyday gestures and feelings. Recent collaborations include CeramiX with artist Chiho Tokita, creating compositions to Tokita's ceramic works and Water Music with Joe Sorbara and Mark Zurawinski, exploring sounds of water. Liu has performed as a soloist and has been privileged to collaborate with many wonderful musicians, dancers and artists.
Victor Bateman is a bassist, vocalist, composer, and improviser. For almost four decades, he has regularly played country, bluegrass, blues, jazz, and improvised music and occasionally pop, rock and classical music. He has recorded and performed with The Good Brothers, Sylvia Tyson, Quartette, Amos Garrett, Chris and Ken Whiteley, Jill Barber, The Flying Bulgars, and free-jazz icon Anthony Braxton, as well as writing music, leading bands and teaching guitar. He enjoys exploring the edges of the urban environment, as well as collecting and employing elegant psychic furnishings.
