On Saturday, February 23rd at 8pm, Silence Guelph is proud to welcome back acclaimed trumpeter and composer Rebecca Hennessy - this time in her vocal debut as leader of jazz and pop band "Makeshift Island".
This band is warm, inviting and exciting without being stuck in any genre. They have been developing for many years including their monthly residency at Toronto's Tranzac club and since recently adding guitar wizard Kevin Breit, the band is launching onto the scene with their unique blend of jazz and pop sounds. Silence listeners had a taste of Rebecca's instrumental and lyrical compositions with her voice and trumpet when she collaborated with author Thomas King at Silence in May 2017. Makeshift Island is Kevin Breit on guitar, Tania Gill on piano, Michael Herring on bass, Dave Clark on drums and Rebecca Hennessy on voice and trumpet.
Rebecca Hennessy is a highly sought-after Toronto-based trumpeter, composer and bandleader who has been performing, recording and touring with various projects since moving to Toronto in 2003 from Vancouver Island, BC. As a leader and co-leader, Rebecca has released seven albums to date and has toured Mexico, Panama, Sri Lanka, Europe, USA and extensively in Canada. She has also performed and recorded with internationally recognized artists including Adele, Ron Sexsmith, Andy Kim, Owen Pallett, Broken Social Scene, Feist, Ab Baars and Ken Vandermark.
