To close out their sold-out season, Shakespeare BASH'd returns to Junction City Music Hall with Measure for Measure. Shakespeare's story of sexual politics, consent, power, and corruption is given a barroom staging. Led by the company's Associate Artistic Director Catherine Rainville (director of Hamlet and Merry Wives of Windsor for BASH'd), the company is bringing a 2018 feminine perspective to their work on this classic play.

Starring Sochi Fried (Blood Weddings - Modern Times/Aluna Theatre, Up The Garden Path- Obsidian Theatre) as Isabella, the young nun who faces sacrificing her virtue to save her brother, the play tackles subject matter all too familiar in this era of #MeToo. "To whom should I complain? Did I tell this/Who would believe me?" These words spoken by Isabella are not far from those frequently spoken by women worried to speak out against their abusers.

Joining Fried is an accomplished cast, including Geoffrey Armour (Taming of the Shrew - Driftwood Theatre) as Angelo, the powerful man who abuses his position,David Ross (Macbeth, King John, The Taming of the Shrew - Shakespeare BASH'd) as the Duke, Olivia Croft (Kambule - Ballet Creole) fights for fairness as Escalus, the woman passed over for power in favour of Angelo, and Michael Man (King Lear, Twelfth Night, Titus Andronicus, As You Like It - Canadian Stage) straddles the line between comedy and tragedy as Lucio.

Measure for Measure mixes laughs and drama to tell a poignant story that will be recognizable and relatable for the entire audience. Asking provocative questions about power and its possible abuses, this production will foster some spirited discussions at the bar after the show!
