Toronto based actor, playwright and comedian, Gillian English, has been selected to play for the Midnight Suns Canadian Development Team in the Australian Rules Football International Cup in Melbourne, Australia this August.

Gillian started playing Aussie Rules Football four years ago, and fell in love with the game immediately, despite having never played a sport before in her life. Nicknamed "The Enforcer", Gillian typically plays the position of Full Back or Half Back Flank on the back line. With her team, the High Park Demons, Gillian has won 3 Grand Final Championships in a row; and in 2011 she received the Coach's Award for Dedication.

The opportunity to represent Canada in a world championship tournament is a tremendous honour, and a rather sizeable financial burden.

There will be a star studded fundraiser at Comedy Bar on Gillian's 29th birthday, July 14 at 8:00pm, to help raise funds for the journey to Australia! The show will be hosted by Canadian Comedy Award winner, (and current nominee) Ron Sparks, and will feature comedy from CCA nominees Steph Tolev and Ned Petrie; comedy scene darling Brie Watson; author of the Best-Selling Book "Stats Canada: Satire on a National Scale", Megan Fraser; and special musical guest Rebecca Perry!
