Daemon Theatre, based in Toronto, Canada, and created by Carl Puci, a fourth-year Theatre Production student at Ryerson University, is presenting a reimagined production of Jason Robert Brown's THE LAST FIVE YEARS. The company just launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the show, and you can check out their teaser video!
According to the campaign description, virtually all key players are current students or alumni of Ryerson Theatre School. The money raised (the goal is $7,500) will help offset the costs of the production and go toward venue rental fees, as well as the license to perform the show.
THE LAST FIVE YEARS, which will hit theaters in a movie adaptation next month starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan, is the story of two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. The show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy telling her story backwards while Jamie tells his story chronologically. The two characters meet only once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.
The musical is by Jason Robert Brown, the Tony Award-winning composer of the musical PARADE, as well as SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD.
