The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) is pleased to announce the VIP presenters for the 34th annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, to be held Monday, June 24 at 7pm at St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts' (StLC) Bluma Appel Theatre and which will also be live-streamed to the TicketPro Doratron in the StLC's Jane Mallett Theatre due to popular demand.
Co-hosted by Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus, founding Co-Artistic Directors of the three-time Canadian Comedy Award-winning The National Theatre of the World, the Dora Mavor Moore Awards celebrate Toronto's vibrant performing arts scene. On Toronto's biggest opening night of the year, 48 Dora Awards as well as the Silver Ticket Award and the Audience Choice Award will be handed out in a glittering ceremony honouring theatre, dance and opera artists and productions.
Among the VIP presenters at this year's awards ceremony are:
Thom Allison, Shaw Festival and Broadway star;
Layne Coleman, highly regarded veteran theatre artist and
George Luscombe Award recipient;
Gavin Crawford, former anchor of CBC TV's "This Hour Has 22 Minutes";
Jian Ghomeshi, host of CBC Radio One's flagship cultural affairs talk show "Q";
Shar
Ron Matthews, acclaimed cabaret artist named "Woman of the Year 2012" by The New Current (UK);
Rick Miller, star of his acclaimed Bigger Than Jesus and MacHomer;
Louise Pitre, Tony-nominated star of Mamma Mia!; and
Jorn Weisbrodt, the celebrated artistic director of the Luminato Festival.
To accommodate demand for tickets to the Doras, TAPA has added the Jane Mallett Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts where, for the first time ever, the ceremony will be live-streamed from the sold-out Bluma Appel Theatre on a jumbo screen - the "TicketPro Doratron"! Tickets for the live-stream event are now on sale for $25 and include the "Under the Stars" After-Party - a giant street party held on Front Street - but they too are going quickly.
VIP tickets, which include the fabulous pre-show VIP Reception at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, are available for $125.
The Doras are named for Dora
Mavor Moore (1888-1979), a well-loved teacher and director who helped establish Canadian professional theatre in the 1930s and 1940s. Recognizing the outstanding achievements in Toronto's performing arts industry, the Doras honour the creators of over 200 theatre, dance and opera productions annually in the following Divisions: General Theatre, Independent Theatre, Musical Theatre, Dance, Opera and Theatre for Young Audiences.
The Dora
Mavor Moore Awards are administered by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA). In addition to the Doras, other programs and services provided by TAPA include: T.O. TIX - Toronto's Official One Stop Ticket Shop at Yonge-Dundas Square and online at www.totix.ca; Toronto's Official Theatre Guide; hipTIX, offering $5 tickets to students between the ages of 15 and 29; citySPECIAL; the Commercial
