Playwrights Guild of Canada (PGC) and Expect Theatre present live and intimate interviews with d'bi young, Judith Thompson, Keith Barker, and Daniel MacIvor at the Red Sandcastle Theatre in Toronto, Ontario. Each interview will be recorded live with an audience and later featured on the PlayME Podcast as the PlayME Monologue Series (PlayMe Mono). PlayME has more than half-a-million listeners in 80 countries and has been rated as one of the Top 20 Performing Arts Podcasts in the world.
PlayME Mono zooms in on one monologue of the playwright's choice to uncover the inspiration, the character's intentions, and some surprising subtext. Triple Dora Award winning playwright d'bi young will dive into her monodrama, Mami Wata, with us on March 6th. Highly regarded with an Order of Canada, Judith Thompson will share her inspiration behind a monologue from the mighty Palace of the End on March 15th. Native Earth Performing Arts Artistic Director, Keith Barker, plans to take us on the journey of Liset's compelling monologue in This is How We Got Here on April 23rd. Finally, we will get behind-the-scenes with Daniel MacIvor and the ingenuity of his one-man show Who Killed Spalding Gray? on May 14th.
Expect Theatre's Laura Mullin says, "PlayME Mono will take audiences on a deep dive into the minds of some of our notable writers who will share the challenges and triumphs of writing monologues that are riveting and provocative."
