The buzz for Drayton Entertainment's 2016 Season continues to grow with the announcement that Canadian R&B singer Divine Brown will appear in the award-winning theatre organization's production of Little Shop of Horrors at St. Jacobs Country Playhouse beginning March 8.

"Divine Brown is an exceptional performer and singer whose unmistakable talent has made her one of Canada's top vocalists," says Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director. "We are delighted that she will be part of the exceptional cast of Little Shop of Horrors."

Ms. Brown is known for her expansive five-octave range and spirited soul sound, which has earned her the nickname "Canada's Queen of R&B." Born in Toronto to Jamaican parents, she first made headlines in 2005 with the hit single "Old Skool Love" from her self-titled debut album. The song launched her career and secured the attention of music fans and R&B/Soul lovers around the globe, while reaching Gold certification later that year. She toured with the Backstreet Boys for their Unbreakable Tour in North America in 2008.

Her second album, The Love Chronicles, proved her successes further by winning the Juno Award for Best R&B Album as well as a SOCAN #1 Award in 2009. The album gave her three more hit singles, "Lay It on the Line," "Meet Me at the Roxy," and "Sunglasses." The latter featured fellow Canadian pop star Nelly Furtado and reached the Top 15 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Chart in 2010. After a three year hiatus, Brown's third album, Something Fresh was released in 2013 featuring the popular single "Gone," followed by a six-song EP Crazy Love in 2015.

In addition to her music career, Brown has frequently appeared on stage in theatrical productions, including performing in several musicals before her initial success in the music industry. Starting at the age of 12, she performed in the play Rainbow World, and went on to land roles in RENT, Ain't Misbehavin' and Joy in the Morning. Recently she appeared in Life, Death and the Blues for Theatre New Brunswick, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Theatre Passe Muraille and the Citadel Theatre.

Little Shop of Horrors features a trio of doo-wop girls who narrate the story Dreamgirls-style singing three-part harmony in the style of the famous Supremes. Brown will play Crystal, along with Vanessa Cobham as Chiffon and Shahi Teruko as Ronnette.

Little Shop of Horrors follows nerdy floral clerk Seymour Krelborn who has a knack for plants, but not much else. However, one peculiar plant he's tending might just be his ticket to fame, fortune - and the girl of his dreams. There's only one teeny - but 'growing' - problem: This plant has an unusual diet. Mixing Motown, B-movies, and the American Dream, Little Shop of Horrors is a screamingly funny, delightfully twisted musical comedy featuring infectious music by the Disney song-writing dream team Howard Ashman and Alan Menken who penned the now-famous music for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin - Little Shop of Horrors is widely believed to be their masterpiece.

Little Shop of Horrors is the first production of the 2016 Season at St. Jacobs Country Playhouse, which also includes the nautical musical comedy Anything Goes, the Norm Foster comedies The Men's Foursome and The Ladies Foursome, the world-premiere of Marathon of Hope: The Musical based the Terry Fox story and the contemporary fairy tale Cinderella: The Panto.
