April 30th Entertainment has announced the world premiere of QUEEN FOR A DAY: THE MUSICAL at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. The 12-performance run begins September 26, and ends October 7.
Inspired by the first-ever reality show and number one daytime hit – QUEEN FOR A DAY – which originated in 1945 and aired on radio and television for 20 years, the Broadway style musical comedy will take audiences back to the fun and glamour of Hollywood in the 1950s. QUEEN FOR A DAY featuers an all-Canadian cast and creative team, with music and lyrics by Linda Barnett and Book by Chris Earle, Shari Hollett and Paul O’Sullivan.
“QUEEN FOR A DAY is a fun and exciting new musical with an incredibly talented cast,” said Director Timothy French. “It brings to life the original '5Os TV show against the personal story of one special woman. Filled with colourful characters and wonderfully original music, the story is both hilarious and touching. It's a unique opportunity for audiences to experience the debut production of an original musical."
The show takes place in the Hollywood of 1953, where fortunes can change in a heartbeat. The outgoing and independent Claribel Anderson (Blythe Wilson; MARY POPPINS) and her fellow waitress Lana (Marisa McIntyre; MAMMA MIA!)) find themselves at the glitzy Moulin Rouge Theatre, where “Queen for a Day” airs live daily. Claribel’s 15 minutes of fame send her down a funny and touching road, forcing her to re-evaluate her dream of being the perfect ’50s housewife.
QUEEN FOR A DAY plays on Wednesday at 2PM, Thursday-Sunday at 8PM, Saturday and Sunday at 2PM. Tickets are available for $35.00- $59.50 by calling the box office at 905-787-8811 or by visiting www.queenforadaythemusical.com.
