Puppetmongers Theatre proudly returns to Tarragon Theatre to celebrate its 29th anniversary of delightful Winter Holiday performances with their audience favourite Bed & Breakfast this December. Created by Puppetmongers' Co-Artistic Directors (and brother and sister) Ann Powell and David Powell, and directed by Sue Miner, this entertaining and charming tale for family audiences aged 5 and older runs for only 6 performances at Tarragon Theatre's Extraspace, from December 26 to 30, 2018, with daily matinees at 2 p.m. and one evening show on December 29th at 7.30 p.m.

A magnificent, intricately detailed dollhouse is the stage for the cast of tiny puppet royalty and their servants in this delightful feminist adaptation of The Princess and The Pea. Children are intrigued by the captivating detail - tiny working period light fixtures and a steaming bathtub - while being transfixed by the power of make-believe. Laced with Puppetmongers' inimitable humour and delightful storytelling, and with a plot featuring entitled royals, an upstairs/downstairs romance, an epic journey and inter-generational misunderstandings, this is a tale with a heart-warming resolution that appeals to all generations.

Directed by Sue Miner, Bed & Breakfast brings history to life, challenges gender and social class stereotypes, and celebrates patience, perseverance and problem solving, both in the characters in the story and in the 7 years it took to create the splendidly detailed set, puppets and props.

Bed & Breakfast has twice earned Dora Mavor Moore Award nominations for Outstanding Production in the Theatre for Young Audiences Division, it was shortlisted for the Chalmers Award for New Canadian Play, and it has received a Citation for Excellence in the Art of Puppetry from l'Union International de la Marionette-USA.

Bed & Breakfast is suitable for children aged 5 and older, and is perfect holiday treat for families.

At the forefront of puppetry arts in Canada, the Puppetmongers' brother and sister team of Ann and David Powell have won numerous awards, and toured extensively in North America, Europe and the Middle East, earning an international reputation as leaders and innovators in the field of puppetry. Puppetmongers Theatre has been bewitching audiences since 1974 with their exceptional and inventive creations, and their winter holiday performances have become a delightful tradition for families and theatre goers since 1990.

Director Sue Miner has enjoyed working with Puppetmongers for the past 19 years, having been a fan for many years before that. With them she has directed Bed and Breakfast, Foolish Tales for Foolish Times and Cinderella in Muddy York. Sue works frequently as a freelance director and teacher and is Co-Artistic Director of Pea Green Theatre Group.
