Caryl Churchill (Skriker, Top Girls, Cloud 9) has carved her place in the canon of Western theatre.

Far Away, an End-of-the-World "bed time story" is one of Churchill's grittiest, most prophetic, political tales that combines apocalyptic imagery with humour and intellect.

A young girl asks about what she has seen in the middle of the night and learns it is "part of a big movement to make things better". Years later, love grows between her and a worker while their artistry contributes to a world where people, animals and rivers are at war. A cautionary that rings especially true in today's political climate.

Director Megan Watson (The Grand Theatre) leads a team of ferocious emerging and veteran talent. Michela Cannon (Tarragon Theatre's You Will Remember Me) plays the delicate niece to her hardened aunt, Alix Sideris (National Arts Centre, St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival). Completing Churchill's edgy love story is Michael Ayres (Why Not's We Are Proud To Present...).

Watson is marrying Churchill's poetry with movement choreographed by Patricia Allison (Fringe Hit Choreography: Pool [No Water]) and music/sound composed by Kath Jordan (Best of Fringe: Game Show: The Musical). Rounding off the team are Sorcha Gibson (Théâtre Français de Toronto, Obsidian Theatre) as set/costume designer and fresh from the Shaw Fest's Chris Malkowski as lighting designer.

In order to showcase female directors and playwrights this fringe, co-Producer Eva Barrie is spearheading the #FringeFemmeTO movement this year with Sophia Fabiilli. Watch out for the launch on June 8th at noon.
