As part of its 30th Anniversary Season, The Civic Light-Opera Company presents Silk Stockings, another long-lost gem of yesteryear. Best remembered as the lavish 1957 MGM movie musical starring Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse and the classic Greta Garbo comedy Ninotchka, on which it was based, Silk Stockings was truly Broadway in its Golden Age. The original production opened on Broadway on February 24, 1955 and enjoyed a profitable run of 478 performances.

Set in Paris in 1955, a Soviet spy whose mission to prevent a renowned composer from defecting to the West is complicated when she falls in love with a Hollywood movie producer.  It's not long before she's enjoying such decadent western pleasures as jazz, makeup and silk stockings.  Soviet-American relations were never funnier - or had more singing and dancing - than in this delightful musical!

With Music & Lyrics by Cole Porter ("Kiss Me Kate") and Book by George S. Kaufman and Abe Burrows ("Guys & Dolls"), the pedigree behind this show is unparalleled.  The song hits include "All of You," "I Love Paris," "Stereophonic Sound," "Paris Loves Lovers" and many others!

Designed and directed by Joe Cascone and featuring the tremendously-talented performers and musicians of The Civic Light-Opera Company's repertory troupe, the cast is headed by CLOC favourites David Haines, Stephanie Douglas, Ashley Gibson, Larry Gibbs, Susan Sanders and Gordon Elkin as the hodge-podge of hilarious characters in this romantic, musical farce.

Cole Porter's Silk Stockings runs from February 18 to March 7 at The Fairview Library Theatre, 35 Fairview Mall Drive (Don Mills/Sheppard), Wednesdays (Feb. 18, 25, Mar. 4) at 7:00; Thursdays to Saturdays (Feb. 19-21, Feb. 26-28, Mar. 5-7) at 8:00 with matinees on Sundays, Feb. 22, Mar. 1 and Saturday, Mar. 7 at 2:00.
