FOREIGNER, the British-American rock band with 10 multi-platinum albums and sales exceeding 75 million, performed the final show in the Canadian leg of their Cold As Icetour in Halifax, NS on Sunday night.
Following a special performance of their mega hit "I Want To Know What Love Is" with a local Halifax choir from Gorsebrook Junior High, lead-singer Kelly Hansen took to the microphone.
"I'm not sure if you're aware that Jukebox Hero - the musical premiered here in Canada. And since it's the last night of our Canadian leg of this tour, we thought we'd like to do something a little special for ya.", the frontman said, teasing the exuberant crowd of rockers who filled the Scotiabank Centre.
Last month, Jukebox Hero - The Musical, which features the greatest hits of FOREIGNER, had its official world premiere at the 2500-seat Ed Mirvish Theatre in downtown Toronto, following an initial developmental production in Alberta last summer. The show's leading man, Geordie Brown, was flown in from Nova Scotia for both productions.
"So we'd like to bring a very special artist on stage here with us tonight. A very talented actor and singer. And he's the star of Jukebox Hero - The Musical. And by the way, the most important thing - he's from right across the bridge in Dartmouth." Hansen continued, before Brown took the stage to cheers from the hometown crowd.
The 27-year-old performed an extended rendition of "Hot Blooded" with FOREIGNER, sharing verses with Hansen, in what became a show-stopping finale to the night. Brown stayed on stage to join in the final group bow with the band.
"This is surreal", said Brown following the show. "To be leading their musical is already a dream come true, but to get to share the stage with them tonight, here at home - it's just wild".
Brown is known to Halifax as both a performer and a producer. He is currently developing a new musical that features the hits of Nova Scotian singer Anne Murray, which is set to premiere this summer in Halifax.
"You're an old pro.", said Hansen looking at Brown. "It's clear you're the right man for the job."
