Luminato Festival presents a series of free events at "the Hub" in David Pecaut Square, including Danse Lhasa Danse on June 19 at 9pm. Choreographer Pierre-Paul Savoie has created Danse Lhasa Danse, a dazzling multi-arts celebration of singer-songwriter Lhasa de Sela who was truly both a Québec and Canadian treasure. Scroll down for a sneak peek at the show!
Under the artistic direction of Pierre-Paul Savoie and Louise Beaudoin and the musical direction of Denis Faucher, the ensemble includes singers Bïa, Alexandre Désilets,
Karen Young, Thomas Hellman, Geneviève Toupin and Alejandra Ribera as well as 12 dancers interpreting choreography by Myriam Allard, Hélène Blackburn, Pierre Lecours, David Rancourt, Pierre-Paul Savoie, Roger Sinha and Edgar Zendejas.
After settling in Montréal, her collaboration with rock guitarist Yves Desrosiers led to her debut album, La Llorona. The 2009 release of her third album coincided with her diagnosis with cancer, and her stunning voice was silenced less than two years later.
Danse Lhasa Danse seamlessly combines music, dance and film, presented for the first time outside Québec at the Luminato Festival.
Much like a choir in a cathedral, dance, words and music are melded into a single voice to reflect the work of someone who encouraged us to celebrate life with great serenity.
