Last night Toronto celebrated the North American Premiere of
Andrew Lloyd Webber's new production of The Wizard of Oz, which features an all-Canadian cast and Over the Rainbow winner
Danielle Wade as Dorothy. The show had its gala opening performance yesterday at the newly named
Ed Mirvish Theatre, which had been transformed for the occasion, featuring rainbows on the marquee and a Yellow Brick Road in the lobby which was built as a fundraiser for Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital.
This new production tells the classic tale of Dorothy's journey to Oz, and features all the songs and characters you've come to know and love, as well as a few new tunes by the dynamic duo of
Andrew Lloyd Webber and
Tim Rice. Canada chose their Dorothy by casting their votes on the CBC reality TV show Over the Rainbow, and winner
Danielle Wade was all smiles last night as she made her grand stage debut.
Joining her are a group of many of Canada's best and brightest, including Road to Avonlea star
Cedric Smith as The Wizard, former Canadian Tenor
Jamie McKnight as The Scarecrow,
Lee MacDougall as The Cowardly Lion,
Mike Jackson as The Tin Man, Robin Evan Willis as Glinda the Good Witch and
Lisa Horner as The Wicked Witch of the West.
BWW is thrilled to bring readers these brand new photos from the production, which is currently on sale through Mirvish Productions.
