Evangeline is a brand new Canadian musical by Ted Dykstra, and it opened last night at the Charlottetown Festival in Prince Edward Island with Canadian darlings Chilina Kennedy and Adam Brazier in the lead roles. The show is based on Longfellow's poem about Evangeline, a woman separated from her lover during the Acadian expulsion. With original book, music and lyrics many people are watching this show to see if it could be what Canadians have been desperately hoping for - the next great Canadian musical.
Richard Ouzounian certainly seems to think the show has legs, stating in his opening night review that while it 'needs more work, it truly deserves the chance. Now that the gauntlet has been thrown down, somebody should take this great story, greater score and greatest stars, then find a way to show them off in Toronto to their full advantage.'
Until that happens, BWW is happy to bring its readers photos from the tech run which showcase some of the magic behind the show.
For more information on the show, visit their official website.
The show runs until Sept 28th at the Charlottetown Festival and tickets can be purchased online here.
