A Syrian escapes Allepo with his young wife, having witnessed bodies in the streets, the sound of carpet bombs, the destruction of his ancient city and the looks on the faces of his parents he is forced to leave behind. He lands in Turkey on his way to Canada. In Turkey he meets an Argentinian who listens to his story, including his dream of being a comedian. The Argentinian tells him he must find a woman in Toronto named Tracey Erin Smith, that she will help him tell his story. And so he does. They meet for lunch on the corner of College and Dufferin, on one of Toronto's coldest days in December.

Tracey Erin Smith runs SOULO Theatre (www.soulo.ca) which helps people tell their stories. She offers the Syrian, Amir, a $700 spot for free in her winter workshop in Leslieville.

The Argentinian he met in Turkey, a graduate of SOULO living in San Francisco, finds out that his new friend made it to Canada and will be performing on March 19 at The Soulo Show, the final class show of SOULO Theatre's winter workshop session, a recurring SOULO Theatre series that culminates in short 10-minute one-person shows that tell participants' stories. He buys an airplane ticket to be there. He will arrive in Toronto on March 17 for the Sunday show. Two strangers will meet again.

On Sunday, March 19 at 5pm, at the RED Sandcastle Theatre, audiences can hear and see this amazing tale, along with other true first-person stories, in The Soulo Show.

The award-winning SOULO Theatre not only sponsored Amir, the Syrian refugee mentioned above, for this SOULO class series, but also another person in their twenties. Xavier is a gay young man, an immigrant from the island of St. Kitts who Tracey discovered while he was singing along to Lady Gaga at his job in a clothing store in Toronto. Amir and Xavier will talk about their lives and making their heroic moves, on their own, to Canada; 7 other Canadians will join them on stage with their own stories, such as:

The stories:
o A rock musician turned businessman who calls himself 'The Imposter'.
o A young woman thinks she's a witch and makes homemade remedies on stage to cure what ails her.
o A half-Irish/half-Black actress searches for her tribe until she creates her own.
o An East Indian daughter of immigrants finds her true self in a Disney musical.
o A former model talks to wild forest creatures.
o A daughter of Polish immigrants creates comedy about the end of the world.

The Director: Tracey Erin Smith (SOULO Theatre Artistic Director) is an award-winning performer, writer and teacher who believes in crazy-wisdom and practices reverent irreverence. Smith is the founder of the award-winning SOULO Theatre Company, the Artistic Director of Toronto's SOULO Theatre Festival, SOULO NYC and the Co-Founder of the Totnes SOULO Theatre Festival in England. Smith recently won a Broadway World Toronto Award for her latest solo show, MEMENTO MORI. Her plays have been Critic's Pick in BackStage Magazine NYC, a two-time winner of 'Best of the Toronto Fringe Festival', and the 'Audience Choice Award' in New York City's Frigid Festival. Smith presents SOULO Theatre Workshops internationally. In July 2017, SOULO Theatre debuts a brand new show at the Toronto Fringe Festival starring a real Rabbi, Reverend and Priest: The Clergy Project.<www.soulo.ca>
