On June 26th, Calgary theatregoers will get a sneak peek at Newfoundland Mary, a new musical written by Peter Fenton (Bemused, The Giant's Garden) and Scott White (Bosco & Jones, Top Gun! The Musical). This reading is part of the Suncor Stage One Festival of New Canadian Work at Lunchbox Theatre.

The reading will be directed by award winning director/choreographer Mark Bellamy (Falsettos, Urinetown The Musical, 39 Steps) and will feature Betty Mitchell Award nominee Elinor Holt (Bingo Ladies, Wizard of Oz) as Mary, and Guillermo Urra (You're A Good Man Charlie Brown) as Luis.

Set in the early years of Castro's Cuba, Newfoundland Mary follows the evolving relationship between an aging socialite from St. John's and a poor Cuban factory worker as they navigate life's challenges while discovering love at a mature age. This musical features an original score of Cuban music, Newfoundland jigs and heart-warming ballads.

The first public reading will take place at 12:10 pm on June 26th at Lunchbox Theatre in Calgary as part of the Suncor Stage One Festival of New Canadian Work.
