NXNE Announces Final Wave of Comedians: Debra DiGiovanni, Greg Behrendt & More!

NORTH BY NORTHEAST (NXNE) announces the final wave of comedy programming for the 19th edition of the festival, taking over Toronto June 10-16, 2013 - including Canadian Comedy Award winner Debra DiGiovanni, Tommy Chong's daughter Precious Chong and comedy powerhouse Greg Behrendt (in partnership with Empire Comedy Live).

NXNE Comedy has confirmed that over 200 comics from across North American will perform stand-up, improv and sketch comedy at 10 venues across the city, June 13-16, 2013. The line-up includes Ugandan comic Arthur Simeon, sketch duo Two Weird Ladies, Just for Laughs Festival favourite Kristeen Von Hagen, sketch trio Tony Ho, TV personality Gilson Lubin, members of Picnicface, local favourite Todd Graham, up-and-comer Alex Pavone and Rob Pue from Punk'd.

NXNE Comedy will feature tons of side-splitting events such as Egg Zeppelin, an improv comedy show that dishes out advice and all-day breakfast to the audience; That New York Show, featuring Luis J Gomez and Dustin Chafin; The Dark Show, a comedy show on the filthy side; a special NXNE edition of Sunday Night Live with The Sketchersons; and Strip Comedy, where comics take an item of clothes off for every joke that bombs. NXNE Comedy will infiltrate NXNE Interactive with three panels: A Comedian's Guide to Social Media on Wednesday, June 12 with Comedy Records founder Barry Taylor and NXNE three comics; Say "Yes" - Improv Supercharges Ideation and Creativity, a ridiculously interactive session on Friday, June 14, exploring the fundamentals of improv comedy and how they mirror and expand traditional brainstorming; and Comics & Day Jobs That Don't Suck, a panel on Friday, June 14, about using comics' talents on and off the stage to land cool day jobs. Previously announced shows at NXNE Comedy include the lewd Big Jay Oakerson at various NXNE venues and Dylan Moran from Black Books on Sunday, June 16 at the Panasonic Theatre. The Canadian Comedy Awards will announce the 2013 nominees on Wednesday, June 12 at Yuk Yuks and the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festivalwill present their Best of the Fest showcase on Friday, June 14 at Measure as part of NXNE Comedy.

NXNE Comedy Extra Series presents Donnell Rawlings on Sunday, June 16 at the Danforth Music Hall. Rawlings is best known for his roles on Comedy Central'sChapelle's Show, such as "Ashy Larry." 50 NXNE wristband and pass holders can join a rush line the day of the show for free admission.

NXNE Film and Comedy team up to screen funny films at Bloor Cinema including A Universal Language, a documentary about six comedians - Jews and non-Jews - traveling to the Holy Land to perform their material in new surroundings; Alone Up There, a first-hand journey to understand stand-up comedy; No Joke, a movie about "unfunny" comedians determined to discover whether they are as funny as they believe; and the Laugh Sabbath Film Fest, a collection of comedy shorts selected by Toronto's comedy group Laugh Sabbath.
