On April 24th, Calgary theatregoers will see the western Canadian premiere of Newfoundland Mary, a new musical written by Peter Fenton (Bemused, The Giant's Garden) and Scott White (Bosco & Jones, Top Gun! The Musical) which will wrap up the core season at Lunchbox Theatre.
The show will be directed by award winning director Valerie Ann Pearson (Becky's New Car) and will feature Rennie Wilkinson (The Producers, Mamma Mia, Showboat) as Mary, and Guillermo Urra (You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, Charlotte's Web) as Luis.
Set in the early years of Castro's Cuba, Newfoundland Mary follows the evolving relationship between an aging socialite from St. John's and a poor Cuban factory worker as they navigate life's challenges while discovering love at a mature age. This musical features an original score of Cuban music, Newfoundland jigs and heart-warming ballads.
The show opens at 12 noon on April 24th at Lunchbox Theatre in Calgary and runs until May 13th, with a 2 week tour after the main stage run in partnership with Smile theatre.
