"Is everybody here…is everybody ready?"
CHICAGO
BROADWAY'S SMASH HIT MUSICAL
Returns to Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre
2 weeks only – November 21 – December 3, 2006
Tickets on sale Monday September 25th
It was 10 years ago, on November 14, 1996, that CHICAGO opened on Broadway in a dazzling production that both paid homage to the original 1975 Bob Fosse version and re-envisioned the John Kander/Fred Ebb/Bob Fosse musical. From the very first notes of the jazz orchestra, it was clear that this CHICAGO would be a landmark. CHICAGO went on to be produced around the world, from Australia to Russia, eventually leading to a film adaptation that won a slew of Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The film success in turn led to renewed interest for the stage production. Having seen the film, audiences returned to see the original live.
Produced by Tony Award winners, Barry and Fran Weissler and under the Tony Award winning direction of Walter Bobbie and spotlighting the Tony Award winning choreography by Ann Reinking in the style of the legendary Bob Fosse and re-created by Gary Chryst, CHICAGO features the "razzle-dazzle" music and lyrics of master Broadway multi-award winning composers John Kander and Fred Ebb, with book by Mr. Ebb and Bob Fosse.
CHICAGO, winner of 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and a Grammy Award for its cast recording, has the distinction of being Broadway's longest running revival. Its story of two real life murderesses and a lawyer who turns them into media celebrities is a page right of today's newspapers.
