David & Ed Mirvish will present seven productions in the 2006/2007 Mirvish Subscription Season. Staged in two venues, the Royal Alexandra Theatre and the Canon Theatre, the season begins at the end of May 2006 with Martin Short's brand new show and ends in the spring of 2007 with the transfer of an acclaimed and popular show from one of Toronto's studio theatres.

"Every year we look to present the best in theatre from around the world," says David Mirvish. "This year it means the Tony Award-winning best musical of 2005, a brand new show from one of Canada's finest comedic talents, three major revivals of a comedy, musical and drama, the return of the most popular show in Toronto's history and the discovery of an innovative new creation from one of our city's most interesting theatrical troupes.

"As a season, this one is as varied and eclectic as one can imagine. It has something for everyone, and at prices ranging from $120 to $585 for the entire seven-show season, it is the best value in theatre anywhere. We welcome all theatre-goers to join our family of subscribers."

Martin Short: FAME BECOMES ME
May/July 2006
Canon Theatre

In the grand tradition of West Side Story and The Lion King comes the next great American musical... but until then, there's Martin Short: FAME BECOMES ME. A humble salute to the cultural phenomenon that is Martin Short, Martin Short: FAME BECOMES ME is fractured autobiography, a searing show business exposé and a heart-rending confessional, climaxing in a giant metaphorical snowball. A new Broadway musical featuring a versatile troupe of singer/actors and on-stage music director Marc Shaiman, the show stars Martin Short in a tour-de-force performance guiding us through an improbable version of his life story in a transparent play for love and attention.

MONTY PYTHON'S SPAMALOT
May/June 2006
Canon Theatre

Winner of the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical, Monty Python's SPAMALOT is the outrageous new musical comedy lovingly ripped off from the film classic Monty Python and The Holy Grail. Directed by Tony Award-winner Mike Nichols, SPAMALOT tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as they embark on their quest for the Holy Grail. Flying cows, killer rabbits, taunting Frenchman and show-stopping musical numbers are just a few of the reasons audiences everywhere are eating up SPAMALOT.

LEGENDS!
September/October 2006
Royal Alexandra Theatre

LEGENDS!, a comedy by Tony Award-winning author, James Kirkwood (author of A Chorus Line), centres on two somewhat desperate and waning movie stars named Sylvia (played by Joan Collins) and Leatrice (played by Linda Evans). Both actresses are courted by an unscrupulous producer to co-star in a Broadway show, despite the fact that they have hated each other for decades. He convinces both ladies to go along by misleading them into believing that they will be starring in the show with Paul Newman. This hilarious set-up provides the background for the full-blown comic confrontation between these two divas and the surprising and riotous resolution, played to the hilt by the two stars that the world will know as "rivals to the death" from the internationally acclaimed television series Dynasty.

PIPPIN
October/December 2006
Royal Alexandra Theatre

Mischievous, magical, humorous and captivating, the Tony Award-winning PIPPIN is the lively coming of age story of Charlemagne's oldest son. A surprise waits around every corner as Pippin wanders through the worlds of politics, love and war before finding his true calling. Dazzling and imaginative with songs you'll remember – Magic to Do, Corner of the Sky and the audience sing-along No Time at All – PIPPIN is another fantastic tale from Stephen Schwartz, the composer of Wicked and Godspell.

ORPHEUS DESCENDING
January/February 2007
Royal Alexandra Theatre

When the handsome Valentine strolled into that Louisiana bayou town, with nothing to his name but a beat-up old guitar and a flashy snakeskin jacket, who would have dreamed that all the Hosts of Hell were tagging along, right behind him?

Based on the 2005 Stratford Festival of Canada production, Mirvish Productions and the Manitoba Theatre Centre are proud to present director Miles Potter's brilliant and critically acclaimed staging of Tennessee Williams' haunting re-telling of the ancient myth of Orpheus, whose love opened the gates of the underworld... for just a moment. Starring Seana McKenna and Jonathon Goad.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
February/April 2007
Canon Theatre

With some of the most lavish sets, costumes and special effects ever to have been created for the stage, Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, directed by Harold Prince, traces the tragic love story of a beautiful opera singer and a young composer shamed by his physical appearance into a shadowy existence beneath the majestic Paris Opera House. Adapted from Gaston Leroux's classic novel of mystery and suspense, this award-winning musical has woven its magical spell over standing-room audiences in more than 100 cities worldwide and is now the longest-running musical in Broadway history. The PHANTOM returns to Toronto's Canon Theatre to take your breath away.

March/April 2007
Royal Alexandra Theatre
