The Orchestra La Scintilla of Zürich Opera, lead by concertmaster Ava Pesch, accompanies the extraordinary mezzo Cecilia Bartoli in concert. These performances celebrate The Life and roles of 19th century opera diva Maria Malibran (1808-1836), a superstar of her era and muse for such composers as Rossini and Donizetti. The career trajectory of this gifted soprano can only be described as meteoric. Since winning the BBC Singer of the World Competition in Cardiff in 2005, she is on the fast track to becoming opera's next superstar. Last season she wowed audiences at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Royal Opera House and Covent Garden, and she recently debuted this past December at New York's Metropolitan Opera. In her Roy Thomson Hall debut, she will perform works by Orbadors, Bernstein, and spirituals.
