The Manitoba Theatre Centre, in co-production with David Mirvish (Toronto), is pleased to present Medea at the John Hirsch Theatre at the MTC Mainstage from November 20 to December 13. The tragic story of a woman scorned, Medea was first presented by MTC at the Warehouse during the 1991-92 season, a wildly successful production that starred Seana McKenna and was directed by Miles Potter. Seana and Miles return to MTC after receiving accolades for Medea at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in 2000.
This great drama of romantic obsession tells the tale of the princess Medea. For the love of Jason, an ambitious adventurer, she has betrayed her father and her people, murdered her brother and gone into lonely exile in a contemptuous, alien land. Now, casually dismissed by the arrogant man for whom she has given her life, she plans a terrible revenge.
In addition to Seana McKenna in the title role, Medea features
Scott Wentworth as Jason. Rounding out the cast are
Nigel Bennett, Walter Borden, Lindsay Buchanan-Clarke,
Patricia Conolly, Audrey Dwyer, Bruce Gooch, Kyra Harper, Deborah Hay, Chapelle Jaffe,
Claire Jullien, Vickie Papavs, Jamie Robinson and Michael Spencer-Davis. Also appearing are Johnathon Andromidas, Coady Mayo, Cedric McMaster-Hubner and Xavier McMaster-Hubner.
Led by returning Director Miles Potter, the artistic team includes Set & Costume Designer Peter Hartwell, Lighting Designer Kevin Fraser, Sound Designer Peter McBoyle, Composer Michael Becker, Assistant Director Vickie Papavs, Stage Manager Brian Scott, Assistant Stage Manager
Natalie Woodburn-Heron, and Apprentice Stage Manager Natascha Hainsworth.
