THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, winner of 6 Tony Awards, will makes its Canadian debut on January 30 by the Acting Up Stage Theater Company. The show will perform Jan. 30-Feb. 21 at the Berkeley Street Theatre Downstairs in Toronto.

THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA (Music and Lyrics by Adam Guettel and Book by Craig Lucas) tells the story of Clara, a 26 year old woman with the mental and emotional capacity of a 12 year old. On a trip to Florence with her mother, she falls in love with a handsome young Italian boy who barely speaks English. Clara's mother Margaret is forced to make the decision that will determine her daughter's fate; weighing Clara's newfound happiness against the expectations that she and her husband had set out, Margaret must come to terms with her own cynicism and contemplate a love that transcends language, culture, and circumstance.

The cast will feature Patty Jamieson as Margaret, Jacquelyn French as Clara, Juan Chioran as Signor Naccarelli, Jeff Lillico as Fabrizio, Christina Gordon as Signora Naccarelli, Lee MacDougall as Roy, Tracy Michailidis as Franca, Michael Torontow as Giuseppe, and Becca Zadorsky as Maid.

Robert McQueen will direct. The creative team includes Jonathan Monro as musical director, Philip Silver as set and lighting designer, and costume designer Alex Amini. Stephanie Nakamura will stage manage.
