"Mum's lying to you. She wants you to hate me."
They say you can't escape the influence of your parents. So what do you do with your own children? Do you try to improve on the mess your parents made by finding better ways to raise your kids? What does that look like?
Finding the balance between private actions and public perceptions can be a difficult labyrinth to navigate. Especially if the marriage is in trouble...
Hot, current British playwright, Mike Bartlett, is already a favorite of Toronto audiences (Cock, Contractions, Bull were all presented here in recent years).
Since public perception sits at the core of this play, Haus of Casati Collective has chosen to perform this piece in a very public environment... the Hub Café, in full operation during (and in spite of) the show. Coffee and treats are all part of the living environment, and even cellphones are not discouraged.
Haus of Casati:
Contemporary Works. Contemporary Issues. Writers who don't pull their punches.
The Haus of Casati Collective includes artists of many backgrounds, with new fresh talent and more seasoned performers working shoulder to shoulder. Gabriella Colavecchio plays WOMAN and Adam Cunningham plays MAN, while Kaitlin Morrow's expert puppeting skills bring the CHILD to life. Christina Gordon is the woman's invalid mother, and Michael Dufays is KARL and fight director. Scott Farley, Priscilla Taylor and Julia Vescio round out the cast.
Jeannette Lambermont-Morey directs.
Mike Bartlett's hard-hitting, compact nugget of a one-act play is just under an hour long.
ONLY SIX PERFORMANCES: November 22 to 26 at 8:00pm and November 27 at 2:00pm. Tickets are $20 each ($15 for Arts Workers).
