For the first time in over 30 years Hart House Theatre has hired an Artistic Director,
Mr. Jeremy Hutton. The reinstatement of the Artistic Director position signals the next step in the Theatre's evolution and strengthens its artistic leadership for the University of Toronto community. The role of the Artistic Director will be to shape and direct the artistic plan of Hart House Theatre, including the selection of the season's plays and to develop festivals, workshops and events in accordance with Hart House and the interests of the theatre community.

Said Doug Floyd, Hart House Theatre's General Manager while discussing the theatre's artistic reorganization. "Having an Artistic Director will once again give one of Canada's most beloved and historic Theatres a clear, consistent and present Artistic Voice."
Mr. Hutton is the perfect fit for this role. He has worked for Hart House Theatre previously as a Director, Performer, Sound Designer, Music Composer and has acted as the Resident Fight Director for several years. Specifically, he directed Othello, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, Arcadia and A Midsummer Night's Dream for Hart House Theatre. Aside from his work at Hart House Theatre Jeremy was the Artistic Director for the Toronto Youth Theatre, Resident Fight Director for The Classical Theatre Project, acted for Halifax's Shakespeare by the Sea, along with writing and composing multiple musicals. This summer Jeremy is directing Twelfth Night, the 10 year anniversary show for Canopy Theatre Company, a co-production with Hart House Theatre.Mr. Hutton is "honoured, humbled and excited" to be taking on his new position as Artistic Director: "This is a great opportunity to revolutionize Hart House Theatre's position as the University of Toronto's Performing Arts Leader." Not only will the position of the Artistic Director focus on Hart House Theatre but will also serve the University and its students as an artistic and educational resource.
Along with his vast duties in his new role, Mr. Hutton will be directing Richard III and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (a musical based on the film) for Hart House Theatre's 2010/2011 Season: "I look forward to working with such a diverse group of artists to create exceptional, relevant and exciting Theatre."
