The popular 24th annual High Performance Rodeo, Calgary's International Festival of the Arts running January 7 to 31, 2010 at various venues throughout Calgary, starts tomorrow, and will feature a collection of the boldest and the brightest artists from the realms of theatre, dance, comedy and music.

The schedule for WEEK 1 of the HIGH PERFORMANCE RODEO is as follows:

Tubular Bells - Alberta Ballet, Bergmann Piano Duo and Honens International Piano Competition (Canada, United Kingdom, ,Japan, Germany and the Netherlands)
The Rodeo is pleased to announce the return of Tubular Bells, the hugely successful collaboration between the Alberta Ballet, Bergmann Piano Duo and Honens International Piano Competition. Marcel Bergmann's arrangement of Tubular Bells will sound out with Alberta Ballet's company dancers and four world-class pianists - the German/Canadian Bergmann Duo, the Netherlands' Jeroen van Veen and a laureate of the Honens 2009 International Piano Competition.

Theatre Junction GRAND

Warning Sound - Peter Moller (Calgary, Alberta)
Peter Moller has created sound designs for some of Calgary's most emblematic theatre performances. Take a trip down memory lane with a "greatest hits" soundscape of Moller's back catalogue. From Macbeth to Mary's Wedding, Beowulf to The Pillowman, two decades' worth of dramatic re-mixes will echo through the +15 hallways that traverse the EPCOR CENTRE.

Midway - Various Artists (Calgary, Alberta)
Centre Court of the EPCOR CENTRE will be transformed into a high-flying carnival. Step into the darker side of strange with contortionists, wandering weirdoes and tarot card readers warming up the crowd for the buskers taking the spotlight on The Hutch.

Freak Show - Swallow-a-Bicycle (Calgary, Alberta)
Freak Show will transform even the most mundane setting into an arena for site-specific performances of the outrageous and bizarre. Running throughout the evening, three distinct tours, led by an eccentric pair of tour guides, explore the deepest recesses and darkest secrets of the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts and the Glenbow Museum.

Grandstand - Various Artists (Calgary, Alberta)
For the third consecutive year, the Rodeo rocks to the tune of Grandstand. This time 'round Calgary's hottest musicians are paired up with visual artists to create a collage of sound and classic film clips.

Sacred COWS - Citizens of The WhimsyState (Calgary, Alberta)
The eccentric denizens of the WhimsyState have united under a simple mandate: to write new plays filled with joy, imagination and, yes, whimsy. This oddball evening will toss out the sacred cows of tradition and offer a showcase of eight inventive new works.

10 - Minute Play Festival - Ground Zero Theatre (Calgary, Alberta)
For a decade, Calgary's most exciting indie theatre companies have boldly accepted Ground Zero Theatre's annual challenge: create an original play in 24 hours, inspired only by a prop and a line of dialogue. Outrageously hosted by the one and only Doug McKeag, the resulting adrenaline-charged, insomnia-addled performances are unpredictable, uninhibited and unforgettable.

Now in its 24th year, the High Performance Rodeo is an annual festival featuring theatre, dance, comedy, music and multimedia presentations. Curated by Artistic Director Michael Green, and produced by One Yellow Rabbit, it is dedicated to entertaining as wide an audience as imaginable, while remaining fertile ground for the progressive and wild. The High Performance Rodeo is the largest festival of its kind in Western Canada.
