Producer Jonathan Randall announced today that a brand new stage production of Broadway's musical comedy phenomenon that wowed Toronto for a fun-filled 33 weeks in 2004 and inspired a major motion picture is returning to Toronto's Bathurst Street Theatre for 5 performances only - September 30 - October 3, 2010.

This fun family musical won eight 2003 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and ran for over 6 sold out years and 2,642 performances on Broadway. And now Toronto will once again be swept away to 1960s Baltimore in this smash hit musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter and romance - and enough deliriously tuneful songs to fill a nonstop platter party!

HAIRSPRAY delighted audiences by sweeping them away to 1960's Baltimore, where the 50's are out -- and change is in the air. Loveable plus-size heroine, Tracy Turnblad, has a passion for dancing, and wins a spot on the local TV dance program, "The Corny Collins Show." Overnight she finds herself transformed from outsider to teen celebrity who is smooching with the hottest guy in town! But she soon realizes that she has a bigger challenge: integration.

HAIRSPRAY is based on the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters, who served as a creative consultant on the musical comedy. It features a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. HAIRSPRAY features an original score by Academy Award-nominated Marc Shaiman (who co-wrote the music and lyrics for the acclaimed animated musical, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut) and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

HAIRSPRAY plays Sept 30- Oct 3, 2010 at the Bathurst Street Theatre, 736 Bathurst (Bathurst just South of Bloor behind Honest Ed's)

Tickets for the production are available online at randallentertainment.com
