Global Toronto Presents The Young Centre's Global Cabaret Festival 9/30

Albert Schultz, General Director of the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, today announced the line-up of the Global Cabaret Festival 2010 presented by Global Toronto, formerly known as the Canwest Cabaret Festival, Canada's most dynamic, weekend-long celebration of songs and stories in one of Toronto's most beautiful and versatile venues - the Young Centre for the Performing Arts in the Distillery Historical District. The festival will feature over 150 artists performing 60 concerts over four days in fully licensed, intimate club venues.

The Global Cabaret Festival presented by Global Toronto, in its third consecutive year, boasts an array of talented artists from a variety of disciplines coming together under one roof to create new musical offerings as well as revisit some of the festival's most memorable collaborations. Featured artists include: Sarah Slean, Carole Pope, Murray McLauchlan, Lorraine Segato, Molly Johnson, Melanie Doane, SharRon Matthews, Andrew Craig, Don Francks, Denzal Sinclaire, Patricia O'Callaghan, Mike Ross, Miranda Mulholland, Jenni Burke, Adi Braun, DK Ibomeka, Chris Whiteley & Diana Braithwaite, Heather Bambrick, Elizabeth Shepherd, Mary Lou Fallis, Laura Hubert and many more.

The Songbook Series, an audience favourite of the Global Cabaret Festival, pays homage to the world's most renowned songwriters with inventive and passionate interpretations of their work. Returning this year by popular demand are past tributes to Leonard Cohen and the Breithaupt Brothers along with new Songbooks celebrating Stephen Sondheim, Tom Waits and Bob Marley.

Also back is the Salon Series featuring festival artists exploring a multitude of themes through cabaret performance including last year's critically acclaimed A Tribute to Danny Kaye and new salons Kurt Weill's Seven Deadly Sins, The Bach Salon and Retrocity does the Police & Queen to name a few.

The Global Cabaret Festival presented by Global Toronto begins on Thursday, September 30, and runs until Sunday, October 3, at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, located at 55 Mill Street, Building 49, in the Distillery Historic District. Tickets will be on sale August 31, 2010. Ticket prices: Concerts $20 plus HST. See more and Save - $5 off each additional concert purchased for the same day.
