Frog in Hand will present Block Party at the Dancemakers Centre for Creation in the Distillery District on November 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 8:00pm.
Block Party features five of Toronto's most acclaimed dance artists and involves set, costume design and a live DJ to support the choreographic voice.
Join Frog in Hand for after parties following the performance - cookies and milk will be served on the 2nd and 3rd, the after party onSaturday, November 4th will be a licensed event with beer and wine.
Block Party's lighting design is by Joe Pagnan, with costumes and blocks by Noelle Hamlyn.DJ Miquelon Rodriguez will be spinning live as dancers Kristen Carcone, David Norsworthy, Colleen Snell, Francesca Chudnoff and Madeline Wright animate the space. The choreography is inspired by the geometry of small, medium and large wooden blocks that fill the stage. These blocks are like childhood toys redesigned to fit an adult scale and aesthetic. The whole event is a celebration of imagination, play and creativity.
Colleen Snell, Director of Frog in Hand says "The creative team of Block Party is using play as a metaphor to examine the way we compete, collaborate and imagine. The work asks: as adults, are we still allowed to play? What does that look like, how does it feel? Block Party is about encouraging audiences to have fun," she adds, "It's about harnessing the power of joy."
Performing rhythmic, audacious movement inspired by the geometry of the blocks, the dancers manipulate the blocks into stacks, shapes and evolving architectures. The space will remain alive as a post-show environment, transforming into a collaboration where the audience will be encouraged to interact, create, engage and party with the blocks.

Frog in Hand is a collaborative venture - a contemporary dance theatre network of storytellers. While our "discipline" is difficult to define, we play on a spectrum between visual art and dance, often creating installation projects and performance work that includes contemporary dance theatre. We tell stories that question human nature - stories with emotional resonance and challenging thematic material relevant to the time in which we live. Our mission is to craft narratives that question human nature through the creation and performance of powerful new work, and to transfer knowledge / wisdom through outreach and engagement with diverse communities.
