The Festival of Arabic Music and Arts (FAMA) and Adonis Group are pleased to announce, the National Sharjah Theatre, in collaboration with the Embassy and Consulate of the United Arab Emirates, a satirical play by HH Supreme Council member of the UAE and Ruler of Sharjah, Dr Sultan Al-Qasimi, directed by Almoncef Alsousi.
Al Namrood (a play from the United Arab Emirates)
The play "Al Namrood" is classified as a historical drama as it deals with stories and events of ancient history which exemplify reality.
The play is presented in Arabic language with English surtitles
Nimrod Ben Canaan "Al Namrood", the governor of Babylon, King of Assyria, claimed divinity and Godhead, and he was notorious for his injustice, tyranny and the killing of innocent people of Babylon. He confiscated their rights and their money. The irony of fate and divine justice was one in which his own life would end at the hands of those he oppressed; a mosquito made its way into his brain and because he could not bear the pain of this, he asked his people to beat him over the head with their shoes until the mosquito is dead. This ironic event took his life.
The play, which is a production of the Sharjah National Theatre, serves as an open invitation to dictators and tyrants to learn from history that unless they would like to share a similar fate, they must work on promoting justice, peace and equality among their people because ultimately, justice is the basis of true leadership.
