Factory will present the return engagement of Trey Anthony's and Girls in Bow Ties Production of HOW BLACK MOTHERS SAY I LOVE YOU, written and directed by Trey Anthony after a sold-out run at Factory last May.

A devastating diagnosis brings Daphne's estranged daughters home where they are forced to reflect on a traumatic six year separation in their past, and on their individual quests for love, reconciliation and forgiveness.

HOW BLACK MOTHERS SAY I LOVE YOU, Trey Anthony's most deeply personal and thought provoking play yet, is a poignant and frequently hilarious examination of the desire for truth and understanding after Caribbean mothers are seemingly left with no choice but to leave their children and seek better lives for their families abroad.

Returning for this extended run of HOW BLACK MOTHERS SAY I LOVE YOU, as part of the Factory 2016/17 Season, is playwright/director Trey Anthony and cast members Ordena Thompson Stephens (Another Africa - Shine Your Eye/Canadian Stage) as Daphne, and Allison Edwards Crewe (Elvis and Dick/Toronto Fringe Patron's Pick) as her daughter Valerie. Joining the company are Beryl Bain (The Mountaintop/Grand Theatre) as Cloe and Khadijah Roberts-Abdullah (We are Proud to Present.../The Theatre Centre) as Claudette.

The production also features an original score of gospel, reggae, dub, R&B and classical music by Juno award-winning composer Gavin Bradley.

Trey Anthony, best known for her ground-breaking theatrical and teleVision Productions of 'da Kink in my Hair, is an award-winning playwright, actor, director, mentor, executive producer and stand?up comedian. 'da Kink in my Hair was the first Canadian play to be produced at the Princess of Wales Theatre and the first prime time television show, on a major Canadian network, created, written and produced by a Black Canadian woman.

Trey Anthony Productions and Girls in Bow Ties tell the untold stories of unconventional women. They focus on work that gives voice to women of colour through theatre and film productions and arts-focused youth outreach mentoring and training programmes.

Founded in 1970, Factory was the first theatre company in the nation to devote itself to producing 100% Canadian content. 46 years later, Factory continues to lead in the development and sharing of Canadian stories having produced more than 300 productions from a diverse source of Canadian playwrights and launching the careers of countless theatre professionals.

The 2016/17 Factory season looks beyond Canadian borders to navigate new identities and redefine the meaning of home, as citizens, residents, and visitors, in six plays charting new Canadian experiences.
