Factory Theatre Studio Hosts Worldwide Premiere Of GODS LIKE US Image

An allegory interwoven with traditional Nigerian music and stories, this new play by Zazu Oke and Vince Deiulis challenges audiences to question what they truly know about the World's First War. On-stage from Friday November 9th, 2018 to Saturday November 17th, 2018 at the Factory Theatre Studio.

To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice of the First World War, this worldwide premiere takes a look at the conflict through a lesser-known perspective. In November 1917, on a yam field in Nigeria, a farmer is approached by a Canadian war recruiter to join the Allied troops to push back the German advance in East Africa. The Nigerian farmer's morality is challenged in ways he never expected.

GODS LIKE US is a two-hander play, devised and performed with energy by Zazu Oke, (YouTube movie review host, Whistle Adi) a Nigerian-Canadian performer based out of Brampton, Ontario and Vince Deiulis, a Toronto based performer/producer (award winning Blue Remembered Hills; good old neon theatre).

Theatre Nidana is a Toronto based theatre company. The word Nidana comes from Buddhist Scriptures. In these texts, each of the Buddha's teachings is preceded by a Nidana, a story about the particular context that motivated him to teach. Our goal is to
remain in this space of the Nidana. Rather than teach, or sermonize, we tell stories to inspire a context or occasion for reflection, teaching, and learning. Production history includes the world-premiere of David Polera's Life Assignment in June 2018.
