Sarah Goldman is a Jewish career woman struggling to find her own happiness and independence, while desperately trying to please her parents.  Sarah's parents want her to find the perfect boyfriend (which means someone Jewish).  When Sarah introduces them to David, a Jewish doctor, her mother is thrilled. Only he's not really a doctor. And he's not really her boyfriend.  And worse - he's not even Jewish!  Oy!   This is a comedy of errors for every ethnic persuasion.

Encore Entertainment will be presenting James Sherman's popular comedy, Beau Jest, at the Toronto Centre for the Arts (Studio Theatre), 5040 Yonge Street, from April 24 until May 4, 2008.  All evening performances begin at 8:00 p.m.; Sunday matinees begin at 2:00 p.m.

According to Producer Merle Garbe, "This timeless tale is reminiscent of My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Crossing Delancey.  All three are charming and funny stories of young women anxious to please their families by following cultural traditions, yet desperate to make their own lives.  Audiences of every cultural background will relate to these characters. As always, we are counting on the support of the community, so that we can continue to provide quality theatre for the whole family at an affordable price."

For this, their final production of the season, Encore Entertainment has assembled a stellar cast of six, led by Alexis Davids and Eddy Morassutti.  Morassutti will be familiar to Encore audiences from his previous performances in Lost In Yonkers  and Jest A Second.  Davids previously appeared in last season's production of The Odd Couple-Female Version. Encore veteran, Marion Hirschberg, has the role of Sarah's mother.  Hirschberg has appeared most recently as Grandma Kurnitz in Lost in Yonkers and as Emma in Over the River and Through the Woods, among many others.  Rounding out the cast are Lee David, Kevin Shaver, and David Gosse.

Tickets are $27.50 for evening performances and $26.00 for matinees.  Discounts are available for students, seniors, and groups.  Tickets can be purchased in person at the Toronto Centre Box Office, or by phone at 416-733-0558. For further information, call 416-733-0558.
