Encore Entertainment will be presenting the Driving Miss Daisy by Alfred Uhry from January 31 to February 10, 2008. All evening performances begin at 8:00 p.m.; Sunday matinees begin at 2:00 p.m.
Funny, poignant, and human, this Pulitzer Prize-winning play is set in Atlanta before, during, and after the civil rights movement. Miss Daisy is a rich, cantankerous, sharp-tongued and fiercely independent Jewish widow who, at the age of 73, is forced by her son to rely on the services of a chauffeur named Hoke, whom she immediately regards with disdain and who, in turn, is equally unimpressed with his new employer's patronizing manner.
Not since Oscar and Felix has the modern theatre encountered such an Odd Couple. The whole family can share in the humour, warmth, depth, and humanity of the evolving friendship of these two opposites. Starring in the title role is Toronto actor Malorie Mandolidis. The role of Hoke, the chauffer, will be played by Michael Kinney, and the role of Miss Daisy's son Boolie will be played by Kevin Malcolm.
Tickets are $27.50 for evening performances and $26.00 for matinees. Discounts are available for students, seniors, and groups. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Toronto Centre Box Office, through Ticketmaster, or by phone at (416) 733-0558.
