Under the stewardship of Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer Michael Trent, Dancemakers presents a 40th Anniversary Season with the launch of a new programming slate and the tour an 'old' show re-imagined.

The fall home show, Hi-Fi, will be a premiere of a new full length work created by the current company artists, Robert Abubo, Amanda Acorn, Ellen Furey, Benjamin Kamino, Simon Portigal.

The spring home show, Around, created by Trent and Dancemakers will continue the company's exploration of contemporary performance in intimate and unexpected ways. Around will include five 'Emerging Dance Artist Project' artists alongside the five Dancemakers company dancers.

Dancemakers is collaborating with renowned Canadian visual artist Brendan Fernandes on Night Shift, his new commission for this year's Nuit Blanche in Toronto. This co-created durational performance based on Le Ballet de la Nuit by Louis De Hesselin, originally performed for Louis XIV in his court, will premiere on October 5 at the Bay Adelaide Centre, 333 Bay Street with access via Temperance Street. Scotiabank Nuit Blanche is an all-night explosion of contemporary art presented throughout the city for 12 hours only.

Dancemakers is extremely excited to be launching a new Presenting Initiative for next generation dance artists at the Dancemakers Centre For Creation. Support will focus on artistic, producing and production elements in order to allow the artists to create to their fullest potential. In the first year, Dancemakers will present and premiere two new artists for three performances each.

In April 2012, Trent and Dancemakers premiered THE ADAPTATION PROJECT, a work that confronted the company's past, with love, to outstanding critical acclaim. A re-imagined performance inspired by Mitchell Rose's Following Station Identification from 1974 , this new take on a dance from Dancemakers' early repertoire has been invited this season to l'Agora de la danse in Montreal in February 2014 and the Canada Dance Festival in the nation's capital in June 2014.

A gala, Dancemakers style, will close the 40th Anniversary Celebration season.

Dancemakers has contributed to the development of a distinctive and dynamic voice for Canadian contemporary dance for forty years. Since 2003, the Centre for Creation has supported the development of the field through specialized programs for dance artists. Working through contemporary, cross-disciplinary and collaborative approaches, Dancemakers provides rich exchanges with the public through performance and conversation.
