There are very few Canadians who don't know the classic story of the little red headed orphan named Anne Shirley and her life at Green Gables.  The classic Lucy Maud Montgomery novel celebrated it's 100th Anniversary last year, and now the acclaimed musical is coming to Toronto for a limited engagement from May 7th - May 24th.

Dancap Productions has partnered with two of Toronto's most prestigious source of books to create events to help promote the musical and champion literacy throughout the city.  Together with Indigo Books and The Toronto Public Library, Dancap hopes to introduce a whole new generation of readers to Anne of Green Gables, as well as thrill existing fans both young and old with the exciting and energetic musical production.

The first event takes place on Saturday April 25th, 2009 at the Lillian H. Smith Branch of the Toronto Public Library (located at 239 College St) from 2:00PM to 3:00PM.  Entitled "Keep Toronto Reading 2009" this is an opportunity to come out and celebrate the book in all of its forms.  Dancap Productions will be presenting a few staged excerpts from Anne of Green Gables - The Musical which will be followed by a question and answer session with cast members.

The second event takes place on Saturday May 2nd, 2009 at the Indigo Eaton Centre from 1:00PM to 2:00PM and is called "An Afternoon With Anne".  This is a partnership between Indigo Books & Music and Penguin Group (Canada) and is also intended to help raise literary awareness.  Dancap Productions will again be presenting some staged excerpts from the musical, followed by an autograph signing session with cast members and Kate Macdonald Butler (grand-daughter of Lucy Maud Montgomery) who will be signing the 100th Anniversary edition of Anne of Green Gables.

Both events are free to the general public, and offer an excellent opportunity to get a sneak peak at what can be expected when Anne of Green Gables - The Musical opens at the Elgin Theatre May 7th.  It is also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate one of Canada's most beloved books and heroines.

Perhaps Aubrey Dan, the President of Dancap Productions summed it up best: "Literacy is the foundation of education. To be successful, literacy is a must.  Education is a cause that I wholeheartedly support and almost any opportunity to help further education is a personal priority for me." Don't miss out, come and experience Anne of Green Gables and share in the wonderful words and music that come from this Canadian classic!
