DIRTY DANCING, The Classic Story on Stage by Eleanor Bergstein, was to have completed its Toronto engagement on March 29, 2009 after playing 74 weeks at the historic Royal Alexandra Theatre. But audiences want more, so the producers have scrambled to keep the show on stage for one more week to fulfill the demand. DIRTY DANCING will now close on April 5, 2009.
"DIRTY DANCING has been an enormous success for us," says producer David Mirvish. "And we thought that 74 weeks was enough to satisfy audience demand. After all, over 800,000 people have already seen the show in Toronto. But we were wrong, and we are happy to admit it.
"After canvassing the actors, musicians and stage crew to see if we could add more performances to the run, we are happy to report that we can get one more week. But that's it.; we won't be able to extend the show again. This will be absolutely your final chance to catch our brilliant company of actors, dancers and singers. See DIRTY DANCING by April 5!"DIRTY DANCING is a worldwide phenomenon. The US tour just opened this week to critical acclaim in Boston, and will continue on to Los Angeles later in 2009. The record-breaking London production continues to play to sold-out houses in its third year in the West End. DIRTY DANCING is also playing in Holland, and another production will open in Berlin this April.
