Coal Mine Theatre is thrilled to be launching #Season3 with BREATHING CORPSES, by English playwright Laura Wade (Other Hands). BREATHING CORPSES had its premiered at The Royal Court Theatre in 2005 and won Ms. Wade the Critic's Circle Theatre Award for Most Promising Playwright. David Ferry returns to the Coal Mine after directing Bull in season one and starring in The River season two, to direct this eerie and intoxicating play.

Amy has found another dead body. Disparate and desperate; an angel-of-death chambermaid, the manager of a storage facility, his companionless wife, a sadistic businesswoman, and her long-suffering boy toy, are inextricably linked by death, despair and domestic violence. An unnerving and highly intriguing play, BREATHING CORPSES is played out with ferocious intensity in a series of backward moving and overlapping scenes. "What 'La Ronde' does for sex, Wade's play does for death." Michael Billington, The Guardian

The seven-strong acting ensemble features Stratford Alumnus Simon Bracken (Cymbeline, The Matchmaker); BC transplant and recent Randolph graduate Erin Humphry (Footloose/Randolph); Toronto-based quadrilingual stage, screen and videogame actor Kim Nelson (Good People/Centaur Theatre); 2013 TIFF Rising Star Johnathan Sousa(Breath of Kings/Stratford); making his Toronto debut, NTS graduate Benjamin Sutherland (The Listening Room/NTS); actor/writer/director Severn Thompson (Madame Mao/Tarragon, Elle/Theatre Passe Muraille ), and RADA trained Richard Sheridan Willis (Julius Caesar, Much Ado About Nothing/St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival).

Coal Mine Theatre, a new independent theatre in Toronto's east end, founded by Chief Engineers Diana Bentley andTed Dykstra, proudly presents their third season of fearlessly challenging plays, produced, directed, designed and performed at the highest possible level. With less than 100 seats available per performance, the Coal Mine is inspired by the intimacy and excitement of the off-off-Broadway experience.
